The Red Devils lost to extend their worst start.
The team are now 12th in the Premier League.
The game isnt satisfactory, said De Gea. The entire season [thus far] is not acceptable for all of us.
Talking to Sky Sports, De Gea added:We didnt produce any appropriate chances. Weve got a lot to improve. I dont know exactly what to say. We will need to step up.
We have accidents but it is not an excuse. We are Manchester United, now we need to prepare yourself to continue fighting and to contact winning matches.
Midfielder Matty Longstaff felt the only goal in his Premier League debut to secure the points for Newcastle at St James Park.
It extends the winless of Manchester United away run at the Premier League to eight games stretching back into a 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace on 27 February, their run on the street since September 1989.
Up for Ole Gunnar Solskjaers side after the Global break is a trip to leaders Liverpool at Anfield on 20 October.
To get De Gea, it is by far the spell hes endured at Old Trafford considering joining the club.
The Spaniard won the Premier League in the last period of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012-13, however, the team has struggled to launch a continuing title challenge as.
He has also worked throughout that time for example Solskjaer, who had been given the permanent role in March following a powerful spell in temporary charge with two caretakers and four permanent supervisors.
When asked what the team needed to do to enhance, De Gea explained:Everything. A whole lot of things.
Keep trying, keep trying, keep battling every day. It is a moment for us but we are United and we need to keep fighting.
Its probably the toughest time since Ive already been here. I really dont know what is going on. We cant score even one goal in two games. Sorry to the fans. We will keep fighting for sure. Well return but now we are in a situation that is challenging.
We defend quite well. Its a fact that they had chances but come on, we all chose a goal. This cannot happen. Its not acceptable. Not just this match, the entire season is bad.
Speaking last month, Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward saidit is important we are individual in order to give Solskjaer the opportunity to turn things around.
When asked how long that will take and whether everybody at the club is still behind him, Solskjaer said:It takes however long it will have to take.
Its a journey weve started on and the civilization is slowly getting there. I cant provide you any time but were getting there. Weve given ourselves a large, big challenge but its tight and we have to get a run together.
Weve come together and talked about the way we are going. If you work on days youll never get to your destination. Well have nowadays but we understand where we want to reach.
The former Molde and Cardiff boss said the two-week gap between today and their trip to Anfield has arrived at a great time as it gives him the chance tosort the players heads outside.
Luckily for us it is currently the international break. We get time to evaluate what has gone on these eight games, the Norwegian told Sky Sports.
We will sit down, hopefully well find a few players . It is my responsibility. I need to form out their heads. Young boys lacking confidence – they need some assistance from seasoned players and staff.
They are human and they would like to perform well. They will have to see the outcomes of their hard work and we are not getting those results thats likely to affect them.
Talking to BBC Sport, he added:This [Liverpool off ] is the ideal game for us. Tomorrow, it doesnt help with a meeting. They will go away with their teams, fulfill their team-mates and come back new.
